The route focuses on the medieval and specialized city of the guilds, with the austerity and preciousness of Santa Maria del Mar Church as center of La Ribera sailor Quarter and sine qua non example of Catalan gothic architecture.
Philip V of Spain domination Citadel -with its archaeological ruins of Born Market newly remodeled as magnificent cultural center, evocative of such rich history- is an important subject of the itinerary. The powerful Gothic-Renaissance palaces in Montcada Street and the ethereal and refined modernism of Palau de la Música Catalana Music Hall offer an intricate richness of this ancient city. Some vivid contemporary buildings, such as the glowing multicolor roof of Santa Caterina Market, live together with this medieval world.
